What a 21-year-old in Schleswig-Holstein did is hard to believe—and could have ended badly: nine children, unsecured in a single car, some of them in the footwell and trunk, on their way to school. And the driver? Without a driver's license.

The police stopped the completely overloaded station wagon simply because of a defective taillight. But what they found inside must have surprised even experienced officers: none of the children were wearing seat belts, there were no booster seats, and the driver had never had a valid driver's license. The car was a rolling hazard zone.

Every child at risk—and all because of the journey to school

The children traveling with him were between 6 and 14 years old—all of them vulnerable. Instead of sitting safely in their seats, some were sitting in the footwell, others in the luggage compartment—like pieces of luggage. And this was early in the morning, in the middle of rush hour traffic. It was pure luck that nothing happened. The police spoke of a criminal offense and several administrative offenses.

The man is no longer allowed to drive cars, and his keys have been confiscated. And the children? They had to continue their journey to school on foot—at least it was safer than before.

Not a trivial offense, but a danger to life

What happened here cannot be excused by ignorance or youthful recklessness. Driving without a license is a criminal offense. Transporting nine children completely unsecured is negligent endangerment of human life—and that multiple times over. Such behavior is not an accident, but a blatant lack of responsibility.

Protecting children in traffic is one of the most important tasks for every driver. The law is clear on this: child seats, booster seats, and seat belts are not optional, but mandatory—and for good reason.

Critical classification

This was not a silly prank, but a highly dangerous act with potentially fatal consequences. Nine unsecured children, a driver without a license, a station wagon as a school bus—this isn't a headline, it's a nightmare on four wheels. Not only should the car keys be confiscated, but a clear message should also be sent: anyone who plays with lives like this has no place on the road. Period.
