Dangerous bodily harm: chicken legs, ear bites and aggression in court

The bizarre case of "chicken legs" and "ear bites"
A court verdict that is hard to believe: a 42-year-old man had to answer for dangerous bodily harm in Freiburg district court. But what initially sounded like a story from a bad action movie turned out to be a case of real violence. Not only did the defendant allegedly bite off half a man's ear, he was also accused of hitting him with a frozen chicken leg during an argument. But it turned out that the chicken thigh was only there to keep it cold. How could such a bizarre incident occur, which in the end only partly stood up in court?
Chicken legs as a refrigerant - not a weapon, just cooling
The idea of a frozen piece of chicken being used as a weapon in a dispute is almost too absurd to be true. But this was exactly the accusation that was made. The defendant stated that the opponent had taken the piece of chicken out of the freezer himself to cool his swollen face. The injured party confirmed this version in court, and so the accusation of the chicken leg hit was quickly refuted. The fact that the chicken leg could not be considered a dangerous tool in this case ultimately remained an unanswered question. But a bigger question remains: How could such an escalated incident have happened in the first place?
Aggression and violence - The background of the accused
Despite the absurd chicken leg theory, the court was clear on another point: the defendant showed "enormous aggression" in both confrontations. And it was not the first incident of this kind. The 42-year-old, a former professional wrestler and world championship participant, not only had physical superiority, but also problems with alcohol and drugs. It was precisely this mixture that led to the violent confrontations. In one of the brawls, he actually bit off part of a man's ear - an incident that had far more serious consequences than the "chicken leg incident".
The judgment and the consequences
The Freiburg Regional Court ultimately sentenced the defendant to three years and two months in prison. The sentence was based on the more serious charges of assault, in which the defendant inflicted physical injuries. The chicken leg as an instrument of violence, on the other hand, could not be classified as evidence. The verdict is not yet final - the defendant has one week to lodge an appeal.
Chicken leg or ear bite - violence is never the answer
It is frightening how often aggression and uncontrolled violence arise out of nowhere. The story of chicken legs and ear bites may sound funny at first, but it also shows how dangerous uncontrolled outbursts of anger can be. If the defendant had kept his temper under control, he would have come out of the incident not only healthier as a wrestler, but also as a person. The law speaks clearly in this case: violence is never a solution - and there is no excuse for it, no matter how the fight began.
